1.  FCCLA Week for members:  February 15-19.  Monday - - Locker Decoration and Treat at lunch; Tuesday – Dress Future Career or Business Wear; Wednesday –Member Breakfast 7:45 – 8:15; Thursday – Hush Day and Member Meeting at Lunch; Friday – Club Shirt or Wear Red Day & Ice Skating in Springfield

1. The HSTW Assessment has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 16. All selected students and alternates need to meet in the gym by 8:15.

 

2. NHS officers meeting in the library Monday at 8:05.

4.  Ava Area Animal League Junior meeting will be Tuesday, February 16 at 3:30 in the gifted classroom. All students from grades 5 - 12  are welcome.

1. The 2010 Spintronic Camp is March 5 – 7 in Willow Springs, Missouri. This camp would be great for anyone interested in color guard. To get more information please see Mrs. Sacco or pick up a flyer and registration right outside the band room doors in the Performing Arts Center.

They will award three-    $3000 scholarships for students who have at least a 3.0 grade point average for the 10th and 11th and must enroll in an engineering program in one of the 11 Missouri engineering approved schools.

 

13. Male Seniors if you plan on attending University of Missouri – Columbia, a scholarship application available in the counselors’ office for you to fill out.

 

14. Seniors:  The National Farmers Farm Kids for College Scholarship application is available from   your team advisory teacher or the counselors’ office. They are awarding three $1,000 scholarships. You must major in an agricultural field at an accredited college or university.

 

15. Seniors:  The 2010 MFA Foundation Scholarship applications are available from the counselors’ office. This is a $2000 scholarship. The committee considers scholastic progress, citizenship, extra-   curricular activities, educational plans and financial need when trying to select a winner. The deadline is March 15.

 

16. Seniors:  The Ava R-1 School District Community Scholarship Application is available from your team advisory teachers or the counselors’ office. This application will be reviewed by scholarship committee members for local scholarships that will be available this year. The deadline for this scholarship application to be turned in is February 26, 2010.

AVA HIGH SCHOOL   ANNOUNCEMENTS      BLUE DAY    *    JANUARY 14,  2010

 1. Thank you to all the kids  for playing in the Mandy Hampton Scholarship Volleyball  Tournament. You are Great !

2. Congratulations to the selected band students for making SCA all conference honor band!
  
3. NHS members: Please pick up a permission form to attend the State Conference. Forms must be turned in by January 29.

4. FBLA District Competition Practice Sessions will be held in Mrs. Gilmore’s room afterschool from 3:30 to 4:30 every Thursday until February 18th. All FBLA members competing at districts should attend at least one practice session. Students in team events are required to attend at least one practice session together. Let Mrs. Gilmore know which day(s) you plan to attend so she can have materials ready for you.

  FBLA Members competing at districts need to stop by Mrs. Gilmore’s room before Friday to check your event entries.

5. FCCLA
    Member meeting Thursday January 21 for all members. FCCLA Week and Winter Social to be voted on. State Conference registration due soon.   Regional Officer Elections Jan. 26 in Willow Springs. If you want to run for regional office see Mrs. Tomlinson ASAP. There are forms to fill out. Attendance and grades apply as well as a commitment  to carry out your regional duty. Bring a  copy of a photo for us to scan for inclusion in the Senior Memories Video of the AHS class of 2010!  All photos must have a first and last name on the back and may be submitted to Amanda Conrad,  Brittney Downs, Austin Adams or Mrs. Roberts prior to 2/15/09. If you have a current photo you would like to have us use as well, you are welcome to bring it and we will share with the Yearbook staff!

MU’s High School Mini Medical School is a one-week program that gives students a preview of life as an MU medical student. This is intended for students who will begin their senior year in the fall of 2010.

Admittance After Absence (AHS 2009-2010 Student Handbook, p.9)
Students returning to school after an absence from one or more classes must report to the office to obtain an admit slip. A written statement signed by parent or guardian must be presented indicating the reason for the absence no later than two days after returning to class. The slip admits the student to classes missed. Students who arrive to class without an admit slip will be sent to the office to obtain one, and will receive an unexcused tardy. Parents may be called or notified by letter to verify a student’s absence.
